Killing the Baby Seals

Killing the Baby Seals follows a group of cadets enrolled in a high school Army JROTC program. The play takes place over the course of an entire day at a county-wide high school level drill meet. Through the theatricality of drill, this play explores the ways in which uniformity and movement sometimes mask and at other times serve as outlets for pent up adolescent fear, frustration, and desire. It examines how the concept of duty––to one’s family, team, school, or other community––can make people do things they don’t want to do, but can also unite people under a common cause.
